Who doesn’t love a quality meal and a GREAT drink? Sweet Science! What’s not to love about this place? True style of a Brooklyn spot from the dim lighting, the dope art work, subway tiled-walls and great music. I heard everything from the Notorious BIG to classic Outkast music had my phone out to Shazam the entire visit! Located in the heart of Brooklyn, Sweet Science will soon be a household name!
On a chill Wednesday evening I sat at the bar right in front of a vintage Biggie Smalls photo, ordered the famous shrimp and grits and was greeted by the owner James Freeman with shots of Jameson. He explained the meaning behind the name “Sweet Science” (which is an alternate term for boxing and explained the moral in front of the location), how this very location was once was a boxing gym. Welcoming, and not because of the shots, but the vibe, chilled.
From the art work to the glass dividers the decor is like no other. His story! Let’s just say you just couldn’t help but feel his excitement like you were there with him and want to hear more. Opened now for 3 years on April 27, this hidden gem is located in East Williamsburg.
Just a couple steps away, you can enter “Featherweight” through a hidden door in the back of Sweet Science where I met co-owner Matthew Maddy and greeted with more shots. “Featherweight” perfect title, it’s a low-key low-lit bar with superior cocktails customized to any taste great for date night or James example “meeting someone cute on the other side and inviting them through the ENTER door.”
On your visit, Be sure to order the Joe Louis Burger, or chicken and waffles. If your just in a mood for cocktails, “B-43” which is the bus stop right in front of this location or my ultimate fav “El Luchador”!
